Let’s Have Lunch - Italian Café Style!

Have you been looking for a pleasant time while eating a delicious cohesive meal? Pino Gelato is here to help! We are participating in Hilton Head Island and Bluffton’s 4th annual Restaurant Week, structured after a similar event in The Big Apple. This is an opportunity for local businesses to showcase their unique or fun food items at a specially fixed price.  So we are putting on our chef’s hats and preparing a unique Italian café experience just for you!

Now that we are all pumped up for an exciting week, let me feed you the information.

Restaurant Week occurs from January 21 - 28. Only 6 days away!! Start off with one of three delicious entrées. Following that, take some time to enjoy the moment and conversation with friends while drinking a cappuccino or espresso and cleansing your palette with a scoop of gelato. Afterwards, let us know if you like our special lunch, and we will consider making a part of our regular menu. Come join us and experience an Italian café meal, Pino Gelato style!

Finally, a round of applause goes out to the entire Pino Gelato family (yes, that includes you Gelatorians). We were voted by YOU as one of the top 10 Hilton Head restaurants according to AOL Travel!  Thank you for expressing you love for gelato and supporting the mission and values of Pino Gelato. You are the BOOM! to our fireworks! No one would hear of us or taste us without you! We are so grateful to have you as a part of our family and hope to see you for a special Italian meal during Restaurant Week to celebrate!

See you soon or should I say, A presto!

Friends are wonderful!

We laugh with them. We cry with them.  We experience life with them. We go out to Pino Gelato with them… just saying it’s always a good choice. We send them tokens of our friendship. We think about them when they are far away from us. We care about them.

For Christmas, Ramona thought it would be great to send one of her friends a little present. You know this friend, Maria. She is the Italian woman who started it all!

Here is “the story” to refresh your minds. Maria introduced Ramona and John to gelato back in 2002 after talking about this exquisite international dessert during a fantastic Italian dinner. Maria explained, “one must educate the palate. The stomach knows nothing. The tongue is waiting to explain. The nose will report the aroma. But it is the brain that must understand.. The brain must learn to sort out the flavor and texture. The brain must learn how to enjoy.”

After that conversation, Ramona and John visited Firenze (Florence), and opened their world to gelato. They quickly realized that gelato was not just food… it was an experience.

Over ten years, Pino Gelato was created and continues to serve this delicious Italian dessert, and of course, Ramona wanted to share her excitement with her wonderful friend.  Her gift was the new brochure that we had just come out with, but it wasn’t any brochure… it had “the story.” And as it turns out, Maria never knew that we had “a story.”

Now, here’s “the story: part 2” in Ramona’s words:

“She told me she arrived home late because she had to take her two girls to the dentist after school and then the whole family went out for a quick bite to eat.  When they got home, her husband David walked outside to get the mail and almost tripped over the UPS envelope that was at the front door. The UPS envelope was badly damaged, it looked like there were tire marks on the outside and it was wet.

Maria was upstairs doing homework with the girls. Maria is a creature of habit, so she was in a bit of a tizzy because homework was starting late, and the girls were distracted and not interested. David came upstairs with the UPS envelope that contained the brochure and said, “Maria, you need to read this.” Maria said, "what is it David, I am busy trying to get this work done.” David repeated, “Maria you need to read this.” Maria grabbed the brochure, the pages were stuck together, all except the page that said “It was all Maria's fault.”

She screamed (this was typical) and then she said, “Oh my God!” (this is also typical). Then she called me- screaming. She talked for 5 minutes straight and reiterated the whole story to me, screamed some more; I could not get a word in. She was so excited. We talked about that famous dinner, Italy, and the fact that we have to get together because too much time has passed. She was so happy for Pino Gelato. She was so happy that I loved gelato. She was so happy.  She was so Maria. And she said, “Oh my God,” about thirty more times!

Some things never change, it felt like we just had dinner the night before together.”
