2015 Reader’s Choice Awards

Readers Choice Awards
The Hilton Head Monthly Readers Choice Awards was a fun event showcasing the best of the best in a number of different categories according to our locals. We were voted best ice cream/gelato which was very exciting and we attended with our gelato cart and 6 fun flavors. In addition to our winning, the Village of Wexford also won best shopping center so we took over a large corner of the room and you had the opportunity to “walk through wexford” gas lamps and all. The jazz corner provided incredible live music and there was some kind of festive drink or dessert on almost every table. The gifts and interesting trinkets displayed by the gift shops and jewelry stores that were recognized were fantastic and even the local dr’s and dentists that won came out and had goodies to hand out to all the attendees. It was a great locals event with lots of people and a real holiday feel.

Small Business Saturday

Small Business Saturday was a beautiful day so there were lots of people out shopping. We had lots of Small Business Saturday paraphenalia to offer our shoppers and the canvas bags seemed to be most popular. Throughout the day there were several large families that came through looking to indulge their sweet tooth and get a break from all the christmas shopping. We really appreciated everyone that supported small and local and a number of people showed us how much they cared by snapping pictures for our instagram to promote small business. Although not the busiest day we’ve had we definitely had a greast turn out and appreciate all of our followers that came out to support.

2015 Village of Wexford Tour of the Wreaths

On Saturday 14 November, the 6th annual Tour of Wreaths was held at the Village of Wexford. The event is not only the start of the Christmas season in the Village, but a friendly competition among merchants. Each merchant designs a wreath for their front door, preferably in the spirit of their business. Tail Wiggles had a bone shaped, pet inspired wreath, Pino Gelato had a brightly colored gelato cone shaped wreath and The Hair Designers had sheers and combs incorporated in their wreath motif. All customers are given a ballot sheet which contains the merchant specials and a voting ballot for the Best Wreath. Over 200 votes were collected!
The Shore Notes serenaded the entire village with Christmas carols in their brightly colored Christmas attire. Santa greeted lots of children and pets and Santa ‘s helper snapped the photographs. On the south side, face painting and glitter tattoos were being applied in the courtyard.
Two marines from Savannah were on site posing for pictures and guarding Santa. But their real mission was collecting Toys for Tots. Their mission was a resounding success as boxes of toys and lots of cash was collected.
The Tour of Wreaths is a great way to get in the spirit of the holidays

Common Ground 1st Book Signing

The book signing held on Friday October 2, 2015 featured M. Z. Thwaite’s new release Tidewater Rip. The author set up at the large round table from 5pm-6:30pm. The book signing was considered a success to the author, who sold more books than expected.
Scheduling the event on this First Friday may have been a key to the success of the book signing. Every First Friday, a select group of downtown merchants stay open in hopes of bringing more people downtown.
Shrimp Festival was also taking place during the book signing. This festival included a local band performing in the park, and tents set up by local restaurants serving shrimp dishes. The weather held out of the first part of the evening, but began storming later in the evening, causing people to leave the park. Unfortunately shrimp festival was also cancelled on Saturday due to bad weather.

Hilton Head Italian Heritage Festival

IMG_0526

We attended the Italian Festival last Saturday September 19th. There was an enormous turnout as opposed to past years and we received a great response on our Gelato. We sold about 12 pans between 11am and 4pm. There were quite a few new vendors and restaurants and we did a great job at walking around and saying hello to everyone. We secured one wholesale account that we met at the festival and hopefully strengthened relationships with several others. It was a great time enjoyed by all.

Volunteers in Medicine 6th Annual Latino Food Festival

On September 13, 2015 Pino Gelato was a part of the Latin Festival in Shelter Cove to help raise money for Volunteers in Medicine. There was an enormous turnout and all kinds of fun activities and food. There was live music with dancing, games for the children, traditional Latin food, and of course desserts. We sold out of Gelato almost an hour before the festival ended so I would say it was a successful event. I had a blast!

Warren Buffet Top 12 Thoughts

Throughout his life, Warren Buffett has shared some worthwhile thoughts on life, generosity, money and investments.
Here are the Top 12

1 – Value Your Reputation

It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it. If you thing about that, you’ll do things differently.
Value your own self and your company’s reputation the most. As he says, it may take plenty of time to build a reputation but only a single deed to lose it in a puff. So build your reputation and never do anything that could compromise it.

2 – Work For a Better Future

Someone’s sitting under the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.

If you aspire for a better future, then you must sow the seeds accordingly. What you enjoy now is the result of your previous efforts. You have to put all your sweat in what you do and make the most now, to lead a better future.

3 – Bring Value

Price is what you pay. Value is what you get.

You value any brand because of its services, it’s the same thing which is applicable to you when you provide your own service. Your brand’s value is determined by the service you offer.

4 – Be Around Better Company

It’s better to hang out with people better than you. Pick out associates whose behavior is better than yours and you’ll drift in that direction.

If you want to be successful than you must be surround yourself with successful people, you tend to become that with whom you spend your time most. So choose wisely the people you spend your time with.

5 – Patience Is The Key

NO matter how great the talents or efforts, some things just take time. You can’t produce a baby in one month by getting nine women pregnant.

Apart from the talent and all the persistent efforts you make, what matters the most is patience. You need to have patience to achieve success in any endeavor you take.

6 – Take Calculated Risks

Risk comes from not knowing what you’re doing.

You must take risk but it should be a calculated risk. Calculated risks are the risks which you take after considering a lot and you know exactly what you’re doing. It is better to take calculated risks rather than running from facing risks.

7 – Do What You Love

There comes the time when you ought to start doing what you want. Take a job that you love. You will jump out of bed in the morning. I think you are out of your mind if you keep taking jobs that you don’t like because you think it will look good on your resume.

Simply, do what you love. Most of the people are just ruining their lives by living on other’s interest. Follow your passion; find that job in which you find leisure. The day when you don’t feel your work as a job anymore that is the day you’ll taste the satisfaction of a success.

8 – Know Your Competition

In the business world, the rear-view mirror is always clearer than the windshield.

Knowing your competition is always better than knowing yourself. To keep a track on your competition is a must for any business. Successful businessmen always see how their competitors have performed in the past and measure where they may need to head in the future if they want to take edge over others.
9 – One Step At A Time

I don’t look to jump over 7-foot bars: I look around for 1-foot bars that I can step over.

No one is really an overnight success; you’ve got to take baby steps towards your success. Always take small and sustained leaps to your end goal and aim for efficiency by knocking each talent down 1 at a time.

10 – Learn To Say “No”

The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say no to almost everything.

You have to pick the your ventures carefully and start saying “no” to the nuisance ideas around you, by doing this you would definitely become a winner. Too many eggs in the basket can burden the load.

11 – Honesty Is A Rare Policy

Honesty is a very expensive gift, don’t expect it from cheap people.

Don’t expect everyone around you to be straight forward with you. Stay close to those who are loyal, honest and true. Keep safe people around you.

12 – Take Control

You’ve gotta keep control of your time and you can’t unless you say no. You can’t let people set your agenda in life.

You are the master of your life and you should never give the steering wheel of life to any other. You must take control and sail yourself, don’t get carried away by the tides. Time is your most valuable asset, so use your time very wisely.

Best Friends Annual Conference 2015

IMG_1629 IMG_1630

This year, the annual meeting for Best Friends Animal Society was held in Atlanta, Georgia and Ramona Fantini, CEO and John Jacobs, executive VP, were in attendance. The conference spanned four days, filled with informative sessions, captivating speakers, dedicated vendors and sponsors and lots of networking fun at Yappy Hour.
The 1800 plus attendees came from many areas of the country and were representing many different aspects of animal involvement. It was fascinating to listen to success stories, stories of dedication and tireless work and unconditional love, with the common thread of advocation for those creatures that cannot speak for themselves.
It was an uplifting event, loaded with massive amounts of energy and happiness. Kudos to the mission of this organization to “Save Them All”

Airport Takes Boy’s Lost Stuffed Animal Tiger on ‘Great’ Adventure in Florida

CJRGkdGUEAAVp53

A stuffed animal tiger named Hobbes recently went on a “great adventure” at Tampa International Airport in Florida after being accidentally left behind by his young owner.

Owen Lake, 6, traveled to Houston with his parents earlier this month, and was “distraught” after realizing he lost Hobbes, the airport said in a statement.

Owen and Hobbes were reunited this past Thursday, when Owen flew back to Tampa, where staff surprised the boy with a photo book of his favorite tiger’s vivid adventures at the airport while away from his owner, the airport said.

Airport staff said they presented Owen with the book immediately after he and his family landed and got their luggage.

“It was very, very sweet,” said Owen’s mother, Amanda Lake, who cried when staff showed up with the hardbound book. “We already told him over and over that Hobbes was on an adventure so it was nice to get back and show him that Hobbes really had been on an adventure.

“Thank you to everyone at Tampa International Airport who took such great care of Hobbes,” his mother added. “It was such a nice surprise.”
